MBK Connections for Living Philosophy
At MBK we believe that when a person has Alzheimer’s or dementia it does not just affect the person but the entire family. It’s important that families and friends stay connected to their loved ones, that each resident feels connected to the world and that our staff create connections on a daily basis. We utilize four key areas of focus to support our Connections for Living (CFL) residents and their families including:
- Physical Wellness – To maintain the best possible physical wellness while in our care.
- Environment – To provide a secure, healthy, stimulating environment.
- Enrichment – To provide meaningful activities that are individualized by drawing on past and current interests and skills.
- Family Involvement – Helping residents' family members to be actively involved in their loved one's activities and educational programs.
We start developing our connection during an in-depth interview with the Connections for Living resident and their family to learn about the resident's life history, preferences, needs and passions. This information is then shared with all the associates who interact with the resident so we can stay connected even when the resident may not be able to clearly communicate their needs. We continue connecting throughout the day by recognizing that behavior equals communication and we validate the resident's reality, further helping them to feel engaged and secure. Our CFL associates are specially trained in the Connections for Living care and interaction processes. They are also involved in monthly team development and feedback sessions.
